Contemporary Christian music takes many guises, from the easiness of folk to the thunder of hard rock. Big Daddy Weave falls somewhere in between, with a sound that has found them sharing the stage with Rebecca St. James and FFH.
Mike Weaver (lead vocals, guitar, principle songwriter), his brother Jay Weaver (bass, vocals), Jeremy Redmon (guitar, vocals), Joe Shirk (saxophone, keyboard) and Jeff Jones (drums) met while they were students at the University of Mobile. The group started out leading praise and worship at various events, but felt they were called to do more.
The group set about a schedule of non-stop touring and released their debut album, One And Only, in the summer of 2002. The album had the highest debut (No. 5) for a new artist on the Christian charts and their single, "In Christ," hit No. 2. Big Daddy Weave also received a 2002 Dove award nomination for New Artist of the Year.
